The foundation of Chinese astrology. Understand your birth chart's day master and elements.
Ba Zi (八字), or Four Pillars of Destiny, is the foundation of Chinese astrology. Your birth year, month, day, and hour each have a Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch.
| Pillar | Represents | Time span |
|---|---|---|
| Year Pillar | Ancestors, early childhood | 0-15 years |
| Month Pillar | Parents, career foundation | 16-30 years |
| Day Pillar | YOU (Day Master), spouse | 31-45 years |
| Hour Pillar | Children, late life | 46+ years |
Your Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of the Day Pillar. It determines your core nature. There are 10 possible Day Masters, each linked to yin/yang and one of the five elements:
| Element | Yin | Yang |
|---|---|---|
| Wood | Yi (阴木 — tree, flexible) | Jia (阳木 — big tree, strong) |
| Fire | Ding (阴火 — candle, gentle) | Bing (阳火 — sun, radiant) |
| Earth | Ji (阴土 — garden soil) | Wu (阳土 — mountain) |
| Metal | Xin (阴金 — jewelry, refined) | Geng (阳金 — sword, sharp) |
| Water | Gui (阴水 — rain, adaptable) | Ren (阳水 — ocean, powerful) |
Based on your Day Master, certain elements support you and others drain you. This determines your lucky colors, directions, and career paths.
